During World War
II, Zlinska Letecha AS, at Otrokovice, in
what was then Czechoslovakia, built examples
of the Bucker B 181 Bestmann two-seat trainer
and liaison aircraft for the Luftwaffe.
From the Bestmann, Zlinska - or Zlin to
give it its better known and shorter name
- built versions of the Bestmann, the Z.181,
Z.281 and Z.381. It was for a training aircraft
for the civilian flying club market that
Zlin's first successful and wholly original
design was conceived, the Z.22, followed
by the four-seat Z.122. It was from the
Z.22 that a design to meet the 1946 requirements
of the newly emergent Czech Air Force was
conceived, the Zlin Z. 26 Trener (Trainer).

Bell B-47 floats 11/30/02
The skeletal image
of the Bell-47 has become virtually synonymous
with the term “helicopter”, thanks to its
role in the enormously popular Korean War
television series M*A*S*H. That helicopter,
specifically the Model 47H-13D, is but one
in a lengthy list of variants in a wildly
successful line stretching all the way back
to the very first helicopter in the world
to be awarded an approved Helicopter Type
Certificate.

In
1966, the improved B-26K Counter Invader
returned to SEA for ground-attack missions
along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Modified by
the On Mark Engineering Co., the B-26K had
a rebuilt fuselage and tail, strengthened
wings, improved engines, reversible propellers,
wing-tip fuel tanks, and other refinements.
