Installing Memory

Installing

This installation is assuming you are installing some type of SDRAM or something like that. There are special concearns when installing the newer types of RAM and we'll talk about those later.

- Remove old RAM if there are timing conflicts.(The lowest common denomniator)
- Locate slot for new RAM
- Insert memory stick into the slot and push it down firmly
- Check the plastic fasteners to ensure the memory is seated properly
- Turn on PC
- Make changes in BIOS for new RAM (if applicable)

Apply gentle pressure and pull the clips back off the module.

This picture shows all the memory slots are empty.

Push down on both sides with even pressure to get the memory to click into place.

Examine the white plastic clips to ensure the memory is fully seated.

There are no drivers to install with memory, and basically other than setting up and optimizing the BIOS, that's all you need to do. Memory is one of the easiest items to install in a PC. If your sysem doesn't detect the new RAM then we must assume that a physical connection is loose or the RAM is incorrectly placed in the slots. If you are Installing the newer types of RAM ie.. DDR you must ensure that the modules are bridged and terminated properly. More about that soon.
