Flying The Traffic Pattern
In this Flight Instructor lesson, you're going to learn about what is known in the USA as a traffic pattern and in Australia as a circuit. In its simplest sense the traffic pattern (circuit) is a rectangular flight path around the airport, usually to the left of the runway (counter-clockwise), with the longer legs flown parallel of runway heading to 1000 ft AGL.

The ADF Lesson
The ADF or Automatic Direction Finder is a navigation instrument that is widely used by pilots in typical light aircraft. In general, pilots are introduced to the ADF, its function and its use when they begin their cross country navigation training. As the pilot progresses in his flying ratings, he becomes more familiar with the valuable functionality this instrument provides in both VFR and Instrument Flight Rules flying.

Introdcution to the ILS
The Instrument Landing System or (ILS) is a precision guidance system that a pilot uses to perform a precision approach and landing on a runway in Instrument Conditions (IMC). Other instruments such as the VOR and NDB provide guidance to a runway from within cloud but neither of those instruments provide the precision of the ILS.

Light Aircraft Landings
If the landings youíve been performing so far in Microsoft Flight Simulator are self-taught then I suggest that you forget everything that youíve taught yourself. Chances are that youíre not doing it correctly.

First Flight In the 182S
The control response, low-speed handling, sound effects and complete cockpit now provide an ideal training tool for the would-be pilot. It is this newfound level of realism that has sparked the idea of revisiting the syllabus for basic flying training that we had previously glossed over due to the inability to observe, in sufficient detail, some of the finer aerodynamic effects.

Partial Instrument Failure
Take-off and climb to around 3,000 feet on runway heading. When you have established the aircraft in cruise, power set and trimmed, perform the following actions to fail the Gyro/Suction system....
