The Douglas A-24 was the Army's
version of the Navy SBD carrier based dive
bomber. The Army tentatively named the A-24,
"Banshee", but this name never caught
on. It was almost identical to its Navy
counterpart, but the Army's A-24 never achieved
the degree of success and immortality as did the
SBD. Its relative lack of success in combat led
to its early withdrawal from operational service
and its relegation to training and other support
roles. This aircraft depicts a freshly issued
generic A-24 to units in the south pacific.
La Douglas A-24 était la version de l'armée du
bombardier à fil porteur de piqué de la marine
SBD. L'armée a à titre d'essai nommé l'A-24,
" dame blanc ", mais ce nom ne s'est
jamais propagé. Il était presque identique à
ses contre-parties de marine, mais l'A-24 de

Navy Douglas SBD-3 Dauntless |

Navy Douglas SBD-3 Dauntless. The
SBD "Slow But Deadly" Dauntless,
considered obsolete when the war began in 1941,
was the backbone of carrier and land based dive
bomber squadrons through most of the war. At the
Battle of Midway in June of 1942, SBD's flew from
the carriers Enterprise, Hornet and Yorktown,
sinking 4 of Japan's front line carriers. The
SBD-3 represented here flew off the Enterprise in
the Battle of Midway.
Marine Douglas Sbd-3 Dauntless. Le SBD "
lent mais " Dauntless mortel, considéré
désuet quand la guerre a commencé en 1941,
était le circuit principal du porteur et la

"Black Cats" USN 1944. A U.S. Navy
PBY-5A operated by VP-54 on anti-shipping patrols
in the Solomon Islands during 1943-44. New model,
aircraft is a true amphibian in CFS2. By Harry
