| RA-5C Vigilante of RVAH-6, which
served aboard the USS Nimitz during the late
1970s. This aircraft (156624) was one the last
Vigilantes in service and was preserved. It is
now on display at the National Museum of Naval
Aviation in Pensacola, Florida. This is a rework
of Massimo Taccoli's original Vigilante. |

| North American AJ-1 Savage |

| The AJ1 Savage was a stop gap
bomber used as a naval nuclear naval deterrent
between WWII and the arrival of full jet bombers.
It had twin radials on the wings and an allison
turbojet in the tail. It never saw combat but was
on ready alert and carried the MK15-Mk39 series
of gravity nuclear bombs from the decks of US
Carriers. It ended its military carreer as a
flying tanker. The AJ Savages were decomishioned
in the early sixties and saw their last action as
civilian Fire bombers. |

specifically for the Ploesti Raid of August 1,

| The Whirlwind was a small single
seat, twin engined fighter, powered by a pair of
Rolls Royce Peregrine 885 hp engines. It was one
of the first fighters to be armed with four 20mm
cannon. The Whirlwind was a fine, fast fighter
that could combat single-engined fighters with
success.It could carry up to 1000 lbs of bombs on
two underwing racks. |
