This aircraft is a product of ten months of work and has been completely rebuilt in GMax and is not based on previous versions. It's main features include reflective textures; animated flexing wings; animated control surfaces; dynamic wing views; nosegear and maingear steering; animated passenger and cargo doors; animated tilting and compressing gear struts; compound slats; and a lot more.

The Rainbow was a recon plane developed at the end of WW2 and was capable of cruising at 450 mph at altitude. This model was created with FSDSv2 and includes moving parts, alpha channel reflective surfaces, transparent windows, nav lights, landing lights and "on demand" contrails. Ken Mitchell's Connie panel (with modified bitmap) is included.

The aircraft was a Fairchild C-82A Packet - 2 of which were purchased from Stewart-Davis at Long Beach Airport. The "Phoenix" was actually three different aircraft as follows: The 1st, which was used for close-up's and taxi shots with the actors, was assembled from the C-82 on location as seen throughout the film, it was a film prop only and couldn't fly. The 2nd, was a C-82 boom assembly with Beech C-45 wings and a T-6 Harvard engine which actually flew as seen in the film - it even had an American registration (N93082).
