B-47E
The B-47E first went to SAC's 303d Medium Bomb Wing, at DavisMonthan AFB. The 22d Wing at March AFB, California, upon transfer of its early B-47Bs to Air 1Yaining Command, would be next to receive the B-47E. The new planes fell far below the improved combat configuration (WIBAC Unit 731) endorsed by the Air Force in the same month. Yet, strides were being made. Besides the added safety of ejection seats, the B-47E from the start featured an approach chute to increase drag, a brake chute to decrease landing roll and an antiskid braking device.

Sikorsky SH3
In December 1957, the US Navy gave the go-ahead to a new program for a very high performance helicopter with advanced technology. Sikorsky submitted a project for a big twin turbine aircraft with a boat-type hull and retractable landing gear for amphibious operations. The aircraft had all-weather capability, a good choice of weapons loads and four hours' endurance. The project was designated S-61 and the HSS-2 prototype flew on 11 March 1959. The prototype was followed by seven pre-production aircraft which successfully completed service trials in 1960. The US Navy ordered the first ten for delivery starting in September 1961. The helicopters were later redesignated SH-3A Sea King. One of the first production models set up a world speed record of 339 km/h on 5 February 1962.

RB57B Canberra
The B-57 is a modified version of the English Electric Canberra which was first flown in Britain on May 13, 1949, and later produced for the Royal Air Force (RAF). After the Korean Conflict began in 1950, the USAF looked for a jet medium bomber to replace the aging Douglas B-26 Invader. In March 1951, the USAF contracted with the Glenn L. Martin Co. to build the Canberra in the U.S. under a licensing agreement with English Electric. The Martin-built B-57 made its first flight on July 20, 1953, and when production ended in 1959, a total of 403 Canberras had been produced for the USAF.

Westland Whirlwind
A small, fast twin-engined fighter, one of the first to be armed with four 20mm cannon. The Whirlwind was a fine fighter that could combat single-engined fighters with success. It had the misfortune that the development and production of the R.R. Peregrine engine was halted, and no alternative was available. The Whirlwind was tailored to this engine and the original specification. When the Hurricane and Spitfire proved to be able to carry the 20mm cannon, and the Beaufighter filled in the heavy fighter role, interest in the Whirlwind faded. Another defiency was its short range, with a radius of action of only 240km. It served in small numbers as fighter-bomber.
