The word 'Stuka' was enough to terrify the most battle hardened soldier in the beginning of World War II. Incredibly accurate and with sirens added to terrify, the Ju87 Stuka was at the forefront of the blitzgrieg. However, in the Battle of Britain, they were mauled to a point where they were withdrawn within weeks of the beginning of the Battle. Transfered to the Mediterranean theatre, it found new life in attacking shipping and in support of the Afrika Korps. It survived for a while in Russia, providing there was adequate air support. Slow, cumbersome and poor manouverability, it soldiered on till late 1944.

The Argonaut was the final, Merlin-engined version of the Douglas DC-4 to be produced by Canadair. 22 Argonauts were delivered to BOAC 1949-1950, and they later had long careers with other operators like British Midland and charter companies.

The A-8 was the first Curtiss tactical monoplane built for the U.S. Army; all previous designs by this company for the US Army were biplanes. The A-8 had many advanced features, including an all-metal structure with an all-metal covering. It had trailing edge flaps and full span leading-edge slats which opened automatically at high angles of attack However, the low-mounted wings were externally braced with struts and wires, which was definitely a throwback to an earlier era. The crew sat in widely-separated individual cockpits. The pilot sat well forward in an open cockpit and controlled four 0.30-inch machine guns that were mounted in the undercarriage fairings in such a way that their field of fire cleared the propeller arc. The rear cockpit was provided with a canopy and was fitted with a single 0.30-inch flexible machine gun.

The Myasishchev bomber usually known as the M-4 'Bison' or 'Molot' has probably been at least as important to the development of the Long-Range Aviation (DA) and the AVMF (Soviet Naval Aviation) as the better known Tupolev Tu-95 Bear'.\nWith the expansion of the Soviet Navy in the 50's and 60's, many Bison-B's were transferred to the AVMF to serve as long range reconaissance aircraft.The Bison-B' was one of the first Soviet types to carry a flight-re-fuelling probe, a number of the 'Bison-As' being converted to tanker configuration.\n\nIn 1959 the 201M established a series of impressive world records. Simultaneously setting a record for zero payload for the same course, the 201M lifted a 55 tonne payload to 43,036 feet, a record unmatched by any other aircraft until the appearance of the C-5 Galaxy. It was only realised in the west in 1967 that the 201M was a Bison' variant.
