Multiple runway usage
To get the planes to take-off from one runway, and land on another, you need to d/l AFCAD available from our FS2002 utilities section.

First, you need to open up the AFCAD program, and click the open file and open the KLAS airport.

At KLAS they use 25R for T/O and 25L for landing primarily. So we need to adjust the length of the runway 25L. We need to make it appear longer to the computer, but not to the eye. Plane will still land and take-off from the beginning of the runway, not the middle of the airport.

Second, after opening KLAS in AFCAD, we zoom in and double click on runway 25R, which will turn yellow, and note the length of the runway which is 14505 feet. Close the window, without modifying ANYTHING. Now move to the runway 25L and open it in the same way that we opened 25R. Now adjust the length of the runway to anything longer than 25R, we used 14506', and under the reciprocal and base ends(left side of window), close the runway using the restrictions drop down menu. You need to do this on both sides, 25L/07R. Now click "OK" and save the airport(use the save command), as this will modify the actual file to FS2K2.

Now, go back and start the sim, if you did it correctly, you will see the file being rebuilt, and other things. Now go to KLAS, and wait, and you will notice that incoming aircraft use 25L for landing, and 25R for T/O.

Restoring a default airport
Anybody who has used AFCAD has probably encountered a problem airport at some stage and wished to restore the default airport. This can be achieved by restoring the default afd.bgl file, but any other added AFCAD gates will be lost too.

Before we get into the tip another suggestion: We are warned to back-up the afd.bgl. Well, how about backing up just the airport that you are working on? Before installing a new gate add-on, open the existing airport with AFCAD and add it to your AFCAD file. If you later run into problems you can it back.

Identify the bgl which contains the airport:
- start AFCAD and open the airport that you wish to replace.
- right-click in the main screen and select "properties"
- in the box that opens, note the title after "file". e.g. "austeafd.bgl"

Find the default airport:
- Go to FS2002/scenerydb/afdfiles/scenery and find the afd.bgl that you have just identified, that is, the one containing the problem airport. Rename this however you wish e.g. add BAK to the extension "austeafd.bglBAK"
-You may have previously made a back-up of this BGL, but if not AFCAD should have done so, labeling it as "original". e.g. austeafd.ORIGINAL
Make this bgl active by replacing "original" with "bgl". (or as appropriate if you had created your own back-up).
- Start AFCAD and open your problem airport. This should reveal the configuration of the default airport. Close the airport. Close AFCAD.

Installing the default airport:
- reverse the previous process i.e. go to FS2002/scenerydb/afdfiles/scenery, rename the bgl that is now active back to "original".
- return your backed-up current bgl "austeafd.bglBAK" to active i.e. "austeafd.bgl".
- Start AFCAD. the default airport file that you have previously exported.
- This should activate the prompt "do you want to replace the existing airport?" Yes you do!
- Close the airport and AFCAD.

Clear the scenery cfg for a fresh start:
-Go to FS2002/scenerydb/afdfiles and find the scenery.dat file. Delete that. (back up if that feels safer to you but the sim will write a new current one when started next)
-Start the sim and FS should rebuild.
